Best of the Best of 2014: Wedding Cakes

Hi guys!

I'm back today with my favorite wedding cakes from the past year. This year, our clients chose a wide variety of styles and I absolutely love it! Doing something different each week is so much fun. Now here are my favorite cakes from 2014:

1. Beth & Jacob - August 2014 - I will never get tired of dessert bars featuring a small wedding cake and lots of delicious goodies, and we designed this one perfectly! Sitting on top of a lovely blush sequin linen from BBJ, all of the beautiful desserts by Rick's Bakery were displayed on vintage serving pieces belonging to the bride's family. The tiny, 2 tiered cake accented with fresh flowers by Hudson Floral sits delicately on a glass pedestal. It is surrounded by a wide variety of treats for the guests including doughnuts, cookies, chocolate dipped rice krispie treats, baklava, and much more.

2. Caroline & Chris - June 2014 - This glamorous cake was the centerpiece of the design for Caroline & Chris's Crystal Bridges wedding. Rick's Bakery did a beautiful job bringing the design to life and every little detail on this cake was edible from the rhinestones to the sugar flowers. The crystal cake stand was the perfect way to display this beauty. Stunning!

 3. Kirsten & Jordan - August 2014 - This may be the opposite of the above cake! The naked cake was huge this year, but this isn't just any old naked cake. This naked cake from Briar Rose Bakery was adorned with a HUGE cascade of flowers by Pigmint and topped with a custom cake topper. Not to mention the vintage table and sequin backdrop that perfectly finished the cake display and created the eclectic vibe that epitomizes this bride.

4. Rachel & Blake - June 2014 - This 5 tiered gilded gold beauty was designed by Shelby Lynn's Cake Shoppe. Jules Design added the fresh flowers, and the Finishing Touch team designed and created the fresh garland cake stand. All this beauty is displayed on top of a stunning specialty linen from La Tavola.

Bonus: Katelyn & Dale's November wedding cake wins best cake table of 2014! The 5 tiered white cake was set atop a floral table. Jules Design filled the table top with gorgeous purple, green, and white blooms {hydrangeas, roses & more}. We then placed the cake on top of a traditional silver plateau to give it even more height and more drama. It was beyond stunning!

Now I'm hungry! Come back tomorrow for more loveliness! We'll be featuring our favorite portraits.

Emmarie & Matt: The Hedge Wall

Hey guys!

I've been waiting to share these images for a long time. When Emmarie and I first sat down to discuss their wedding design she knew she wanted a garden style wedding. As we brainstormed, I began to envision a lovely English Garden brought inside with lace table cloths and beautiful hedges. When I suggested a hedge wall as a backdrop for their wedding cake, Emmarie and her parents loved the idea! Here's the gorgeous finished product....

What do you think? I'm crazy about the results!

Amanda & Geoffrey: The Details

Hey everyone!

Sorry for the brief hiatus from blogging last week! I was working on getting our website updated with loads of new summer weddings. And today, I have one of my very favorite summer weddings to share with you! Amanda and Geoffrey were married on June 23 in Little Rock, Arkansas. From the beginning it was clear Amanda didn't want a traditional wedding, so we went contemporary, unique, and fun on the design! And I think it turned out absolutely beautifully.

I'm going to be blogging their wedding all week, but today, we'll start with the details captured flawlessly by Carper Creative Photography...

There were 2 areas to their reception, the ballroom area was dark with purple uplighting and black table linens. This space had a distinct club vibe...

And the tented terrace was all white with tiny pops of color...

Tent frame & draping by Party Time Rentals. furniture & pillows from Trendstyle Events. Chandeliers & floral by Tanarah Luxe Floral.
By using comfortable seating mixed with traditional tables we were able to give this outdoor space a  lounge feel. Especially when the sun went down! I am CRAZY about how this tent turned out. Aren't you? More pics to come!

A big thank you to Carper Creative Photography for the gorgeous images.

Come back tomorrow for Amanda & Geoffrey's First Look!

Art Inspired Wedding Cakes

Hey everyone!

I've been completely absorbed with brainstorming for a wedding we have coming up at Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art next summer. That wedding is going to be absolutely amazing! In part because of the venue and in part because the entire design is going to be inspired by art. During my searching, I've found some incredible wedding cakes that are inspired by art and I'm slightly obsessed....
Gustav Klimt inspired wedding cake
Piet Mondrian inspired cake. Maybe my favorite because of the surprise factor!
Jackson Pollock inspired wedding cake.
Do you love this idea as much as I do? I see no reason why your wedding cake shouldn't be a work of art in itself and I cannot wait to see what we come up with for the Crystal Bridges wedding. Mark your calendars now!

Maggie Austin...enough said.

Hey everyone!

I've blogged about my love for DC wedding cake designer extraordinaire, Maggie Austin's, masterpieces before and I feel the need to do it again. Every time I see one of her designs I'm inspired to create an entire event around it. They're stunning works of art, and I'll let them speak for themselves.

The perfect modern white wedding cake...

Amazing smaller designs...

Beautiful 2 tiered cakes...

White on white on white...

Unbelievable hand painted designs...

An unexpected black and white look....

And her cookies. They are so beautiful, I would literally frame them and hang them on my wall...

Ashley & David: AMAZING wedding cake

The most incredible detail from Ashley & David's wedding is their classic, dramatic, awe-worthy, and HUGE wedding cake created especially for them by Lisa's Cake Boutique in Conway, Arkansas. This cake is so amazing, it deserves it's own blog post! See for yourself...

We placed the 7 tiered wedding cake on an absolutely amazing fur trimmed overlay from Wildflower Linens & lit the wall with winter tree gobos in a blue shade to complete the Winter theme for this stunning wedding.

Can you say Sylvia Weinstock worthy? The wedding cake was surrounded by guests throughout the evening, all of whom were amazing by the gorgeous sugar flowers hand crafted by Lisa's Cake Boutique. I HIGHLY recommend them to any bride. And their cakes are delicious to boot!

Come back tomorrow for the sweet moments of Ashley & David's wedding day.
